The Soul of Satoyama Private Heritage Retreat in Miyama| Kouchowa

A quiet Return to Ancestral Rhythm

Hidden deep within the mountains of Kyoto, Miyama is a place where time slows and the land remembers.
Surrounded by forests, ancient shrines, and centuries-old thatched-roof villages,
this retreat offers a gentle return to simplicity, presence, and inner clarity.
This is not a tour, nor a program to follow.

It is a carefully held space where each moment unfolds naturally
— guided by the land, the seasons, and your own inner rhythm.

Sole Use of a 150-Year-Old Heritage Sanctuary

A Sanctuary Beyond Time

The entire thatched villa is dedicated to your journey.
Surrounded by the whispers of the ancient forest, you can immerse yourself in a private world where nothing comes between you and your true self.

From the tatami rooms,
the surrounding mountains open wide,
offering uninterrupted views and a deep sense of stillness.

Nearby, sacred shrines with more than 1,300 years of history
continue to be quietly cared for by the local community.

These places are visited not as destinations, but as moments of reflection and reverence.

For Residency Guests (Plan A & B)

To honor your absolute privacy and the sanctity of your inner journey, the entire estate is yours to inhabit alone during the night. While Naoko facilitate your journey throughout the day, she stays at a separate nearby location after our evening session, rejoining you in the morning.

The Experience

A Journey Beyond Words

Our program integrates Taketama movement, sound resonance, and forest meditation.
We focus on felt-sense and energetic alignment, transcending the need for complex language.

Time in Miyama is intentionally unhurried.

Days may include

  • Silent walks through forest paths and rural landscapes
  • Time spent at ancient shrine grounds for quiet contemplation
  • Creative and meditative practices such as ancient script copying or handcrafted talisman-making
  • Evenings around the hearth, allowing conversation, silence, and rest to arise naturally
  • Sound, breath, and gentle movement practices to support deep relaxation and embodied awareness

Rather than a fixed schedule, each retreat is shaped by the group’s energy, weather, and seasonal flow.

Enhance Your Journey: Optional Sound & Voice Therapy

To deepen your resonance with the land and yourself, you may add a private Sound & Voice Therapy session to your retreat. This unique treatment blends the vibrations of tuning forks, singing bowls, and ancient Japanese chanting to facilitate a profound inner reset.

  • 60 min | Signature Alignment: USD 150
  • 90 min | Deep Transformation & Integration: USD 220

Scheduling Your Retreat

Retreat dates are flexible and arranged individually, allowing each experience to unfold according to your availability and the rhythm of the land.

While any date can be requested, we recommend certain seasonal periods to fully enjoy the beauty and serenity of the surroundings

🌸Spring… Cherry blossoms and fresh greenery
🍂Autumn… Vibrant fall foliage and crisp air

For these suggested periods, we may offer limited spots to maintain an intimate and tranquil atmosphere.

As each sanctuary is exclusively curated and prepared for your specific journey, we recommend reaching out as early as possible—especially during the cherry blossom season—to ensure the space is held for your presence.

Each retreat is tailored for your group, ensuring that the schedule, activities, and pacing align with your needs while preserving the quiet, immersive experience.

Connecting Before Your Journey

To ensure the spiritual resonance of the retreat aligns with your intentions, a brief online introductory consultation with Naoko is held for all first-time guests.
This is a cherished time to connect and confirm that the sanctuary’s energy is the right fit for your path before we finalize your reservation.

Each retreat is tailored for your group, ensuring that the schedule, activities, and pacing align with your needs while preserving the quiet, immersive experience.

Meals

Simple, nourishing plant-based meals are prepared with care,
using local and seasonal ingredients whenever possible.

Light lunches, evening meals, and breakfast are shared as part of the retreat rhythm — offering grounding, warmth, and connection without excess.
